I first caught Karol G live at Coachella in 2022 and nothing was ever the same. I was just passing by the main stage after leaving another act’s performance and headed towards the media tent to get some shade and water, but the vibes of Medellín’s finest caught me like the smell of warm churros at the Santa Monica Pier! Left with no choice, I stuck around for the whole performance, and not a regret was had. Besides her powerful stage presence, Karol’s performance of “Don’t Be Shy” with Tiesto sealed the deal for me.

My experience seeing her at Coachella was obviously followed up by a deep dive into her catalogue. Now, I know a little Spanish, but not enough to understand what she is saying upon first listen. One thing I did understand though is that Karol G made bad b*tch music. Music for the girlies who are out here getting it. I just KNEW she was popping her sh*t, and I love my music with a high self-esteem.

Shortly after Coachella, she put out “Provenza” after teasing it on her TikTok which easily made all my playlists. It was the way she said, “Baby, qué mas?!” This was the first time I looked to translate one of her songs, and “Provenza” seemed to be about spinning the block and keeping it player. Okay. Periodt.

So, when the opportunity to catch her live at her sold-out Rose Bowl show in Pasadena popped up, I had to pull up. With Mañana Sera Bonita fresh out, it included my jam “Provenza” and I collected more favorites like “X SI VOLVEMOS,” “BESTIES,” “TUS GRAFITAS” and “GATUBELA” featuring Maldy from OG Reggaeton duo Plan B. Right before her sold-out Rose Bowl show, the Bichota Season version of Mañana Sera Bonita dropped and it’s opening song “BICHOTAG” easily became my go-to Karol G song. You can tell by her tone she is popping her sh*t.

Off the rip she says, “Bichota G, por los aires en el G / El culo es AMG y de fábrica el piquete,” which basically means put your Gs in the air and that her ass is sitting an AMG. The rest of the song is just Karol on some big boss energy vibes — and like I that.

She is La Bichota after all. The Head Bichota In Charge. Como se dice, ‘the big Bichota not the little one?’ Bichota is an empowering term that Karol conceptualized from the Puerto Rican word “bitchote,” traditionally reserved for powerful men who move weight. I think Bad Bunny feels a way about it since he’s from Puerto Rico, but he’ll be alright. It’s Bichota Season!

Plus, I love how I don’t necessarily need to know exactly what she’s saying to feel her; and feel her enough to carry that Bichota energy with me throughout the day. Every woman deserves to feel like the biggest Bichota!
